Follow The Great American Passage with a Private Guide...
It is estimated that forty percent of the entire US population can trace at least one relative’s immigration through the port of New York City and Ellis Island. One of the first things they saw as their ship entered the harbor was the Statue of Liberty, holding aloft her beacon.
On this tour, we will explore both of these iconic, national landmarks. Our first stop will be the Statue of Liberty where we will discover some of the motives behind this 100th birthday gift to America from France, meet some of the key people involved in her creation and investigate the symbolism in the statue.
From there we will journey to Ellis Island, one of the most important historic sites in America. Twentieth-century America was born on this small island and we will spend the rest of our time together exploring this remarkable place. We’ll learn that this “Island of Hope” for many could also be an “Island of Tears” for some.
